weekly freelancing job update 1

by vienna on January 10, 2011

It’s difficult not to be disheartened but at the moment, I’m close to being just that. Reason is because I haven’t got enough freelance writing jobs that would fill my allotted weekly working hours. Consequently, that also means I don’t reach my target weekly income and that’s what’s making me a little sad. I know freelancing is not easy but I am beginning to see it as unfair to freelancers. I am sure that if I bid a lot cheaper then I will definitely get the jobs I applied for  but because I just can’t lower my bidding price, I often get rejected. Employers (buyers) are the ones that benefit more from this system. Perhaps freelancers from developing countries who accepts 2$/hr or lower also benefit from it but I doubt if freelancers from Europe and America are quite as happy. 2$/hr in my home country is around 90pesos and that’s a lot based on the country’s allowed minimum wage rate. If I would be living there, I would accept that too but that’s not the case. 2$ is merely 1.4Euro and that’s not even enough to buy a bag of chips.

Last night, I was thinking about what could those outsourcing sites do about this problem but I also have no idea of how to go about it. Tsk! I think I just have to accept the fact that freelancers in my side of the globe have more difficulty landing a good paying freelance job.

My one and only employer at Odesk sort of promised to give me more tasks so I can have 10-15hours/week but the task I was given last week was not enough. Or maybe, I am just too fast that I finished my tasks in 9hours. I am working too fast or I’m getting too less tasks—whatever! Either way, I am not pleased because I am not reaching my target weekly income.

I hope though that this will change soon.

And since I didn’t have much tasks to do last week, I started revamping my sites’ themes. I started with Vien’s Pot—the life of a not-so-desperate housewife. Here’s the banner I used and driven by my ambition to learn how to design my own wordpress theme, I created it all by myself. It’s not much but it is a start and at least, there’s something I can be happy about with my blogging last week.

I hope things will get better with my blogging endeavors this week.

hi! ako naman ayoko ng “per hour”

kasi yun nga, hindi naman nila sinasama sa bayad yung spent time for research.

mas gusto ko talaga fixed rate

parang package deal

odesk lang ba gusto mo?

ayaw mo ba sa elance?

marami pang ibang ganyang klase ng site eh

cheers :-)
